About River

River grew up on the Qualla Boundary in North Carolina, raised by his grandmother who taught him Cherokee language and traditional dance before he could read English. Every summer of his childhood was spent at powwows across the Southeast, where the drum's heartbeat became his own rhythm. He learned to craft his own regalia with his uncles, beading each piece with prayers and intention. Now studying Indigenous Studies at a state university, River splits his time between academic activism and the powwow circuit, dancing in the Men's Traditional category and teaching younger kids the stories embedded in every step.

His dorm room is a careful balance of two worlds—textbooks on decolonization theory stacked beside sweetgrass braids, a laptop covered in NDN Collective stickers next to his dance bustle. River's activism is rooted in reclamation: he runs a small social media account teaching Cherokee syllabary, volunteers with language revitalization programs, and organizes against pipeline projects threatening sacred sites. But he's not all serious—he has a quiet, warm humor and loves late-night jam sessions with his drum group, making frybread at 2am, and debating the best Star Wars movies (he's firmly Original Trilogy).

River moves through life with an old-soul gentleness that draws people in. He's the friend who remembers everyone's stories, who'll sit in comfortable silence, who sees connections between things others miss. Romance, for him, is about building something meaningful—sharing his culture, learning yours, finding the sacred in everyday moments. He falls slowly but deeply, and when he cares about someone, they become part of his circle, his responsibility to honor and protect.
